As we approach the end of another productive term, I am pleased to inform you that student report cards will be released on Thursday, 26th June 2025 at 3pm. These will be accessible via the COMPASS app. We encourage all families to take the time to review your child’s progress and celebrate their achievements.
We extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated teachers and support staff for their continued commitment to learning and teaching at Our Lady of Lourdes. Your efforts in catering to the diverse learning styles of our students are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or concerns after reading your child’s report, please don’t hesitate to reach out to their classroom teacher for further discussion.
We are pleased to share that restoration works on our school hall have commenced following the recent floods. At this stage, we are hopeful the hall will be fully operational by the beginning of Term 4.
Students have also begun preparing for our upcoming Athletics Carnival, which will be held in Week 1 of Term 3. Training is well underway, with students already making use of the high jump mats and our newly installed long jump pit, which was completed over the weekend.
We are looking forward to welcoming our school community next Thursday evening 19th June for our first Family Engagement Event of the year – our Family BBQ and Movie Night. It promises to be a fun and relaxing evening for all! The event will kick off at 5:30pm, with the movie set to begin at 6:00pm. We hope to see many of our families there, enjoying a night of connection, good food, and entertainment under the stars.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to a strong finish to the term.
Many blessings,
Jo Desailly

Confirmation
Our Sacramental Program resumes this week. Again, it will be held in Mercy Hall beside St Patrick’s Church, Ingham, on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm and Thursday at 3:30 pm. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated with First Holy Communion on September 14 at 8:30 am at St Patrick’s, Ingham.
School Mass
Last Friday, we celebrated Mass with the school. The readings were based on the coming Sunday, which was Pentecost Sunday. Father John spoke to the children about the power of the Holy Spirit and how it gives us the courage to go out and be more like Jesus. The students were wonderful with their singing and responses during Mass.
Class Visit
It was lovely to be invited to visit Year 1 and join in their meditation, as well as to appreciate the wonderful work they have been doing in Religious Education. I’ve been invited back next week to see the final product. I can’t wait! Great job, Year 1!
We were delighted to welcome Father Jomi into our classrooms this week.
Father Jomi spent time with the students discussing what they’ve been learning in Religious Education and answered their thoughtful questions with warmth and insight. The children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to engage with him.
Thank you, Father Jomi, for your time and your presence in our school community.
The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus - June 27
The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is a celebration that falls 19 days after Pentecost. On June 27, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. This day reminds us of Jesus's incredible and everlasting love!
Catholic Education Week
Catholic schools across Queensland will again celebrate Catholic Education Week in 2025, with the theme "Communities of Faith, Hope, and Love." This theme captures the essence of what it means to be part of a Catholic school community. Faith ignites growth. Hope fuels support. Love welcomes all. Together, these pillars nurture students’ spirits, empower teachers, and embrace families, creating a vibrant learning community where everyone thrives.
Catholic Education Week’s theme aligns with the 2025 Jubilee Year theme: Pilgrims of Hope. This reminds us of the profound significance of hope and its universal reach.
God Bless

Forgiveness in Friendship: Extending an Olive Branch
In our Friendology curriculum, URSTRONG Schools help students spot strengths in themselves & their friends in our fun, character-building activities!
According to VIA Institute of Character, we all possess 24 Character Strengths in different degrees. Everyone has a different mixture or combination of strengths; some representing our top strengths (often called Signature Strengths).
With our theme of FORGIVENESS this month, we’re getting students to reflect on the concept of “extending an olive branch” (like the little guys are demonstrating in the image). This ties in so well with conversations around reconciliation, along with the idea of peace offerings. So many Teachable Moments!
After a Friendship Fire®, moving from Talk-it-Out to Forgive & Forget on the Friend-o-Cycle can take time. Kids also share that it can “feel awkward” for a while. One easy strategy to speed things up is by “extending an olive branch”. A few examples include:
- “Hey, wanna play hide & seek?”
- “Have you heard that new song by Shawn Mendes? I think you’d love it!”
- “Want a cookie? I made them last night with my dad!”
- “Wow, cool colours on your painting! It’s so vibrant!”
Forgiveness is such a big, layered topic and there’s so much to unpack with students! Parents can reinforce these lessons at home with this activity: What is Forgiveness? We love the ways our URSTRONG Schools & URSTRONG Families are helping kids move forward after Friendship Fires® to get their friendships back in the Green-Zone on the Friend-o-Meter!

"But I'm SO BORED!…"
I feel like even as adults we have become conditioned to think that being bored is a bad thing, and we then think our kids being bored is a bad thing.
In a study in 2014, one-quarter of participants said they would rather give themselves a painful shock than be in a room with no external stimulus (that being music, books, phones) for 15 minutes. 15 minutes.
This shows how much people want to escape the feeling of boredom!
Boredom - What if we welcomed it? Even encouraged it? Shock, gasp, horror, what?!
In a world filled with flashy new sparkly technology every 5 minutes, instant gratification, a myriad of entertainment available at our fingertips and in an instant, is it becoming harder to sit in quiet and let our minds daydream and wander? And if it is for adults, what about kids?
I think being bored can be a good thing. I think our kids being bored can be great. Productive even!
With your kids, don't feel like you need to step in and "stop the boredom" or "beat the boredom" for them, being bored helps them develop attention spans, self regulation, and promotes creativity. It also encourages problem solving, as they need to "solve the boredom" themselves.
Whilst it isn't our job as parents to prevent their boredom, it is our responsibility to encourage them to seek "boredom busting" activities, and provide the space to do so. An example of this might be an invitation to play type set up, where you place some paper and glue and pens on the table, or you get out some playdough, or you take some chalk out to the backyard, or you cook/bake with your kids. Maybe you get out a tent or some blankets and pillows for a fort and leave them with this, or you set up some water play (safely). The ideas are endless, and in my opinion, with kids and teens alike, boredom can foster creativity, new passions, and also provide a much needed break from screens and gaming. Win, win.
